Get educated for fatherhood!
A new family crew member is a delightful prospect, especially for the well prepared and informed
parent. Where better to prepare for this parenting regatta than at childbirth education classes?
Held from February 12 to 20 2005, Pregnancy Education Week - proudly supported by HuggiesR Freedom* - is an initiative aimed at encouraging moms and dads to set sail on one of the most adventurous family cruises, beginning with antenatal classes.
These classes encourage partners' involvement and
highlight the importance of the man's role as the family's captain. By learning how best to support their partners, men can learn how to keep the family vessel on an even keel through the high seas of emotions, offer support when their labouring partners would prefer to jump ship and
generally keep the boat afloat in trying times of early parenting.
Antenatal classes offer couples a relaxed atmosphere where vital information is discussed in an enlightening, socially interactive forum. Practical advice and hands-on demonstrations on how to bath your baby and nappy-changing techniques are also provided.
Alan Hosking, author of What Nobody Tells A New Father offers the following advice for prospective dads: "Your pregnant partner can display attack skills equivalent to that of a great white shark. So during the first trimester of pregnancy, think before you speak. In the second trimester, think twice before you speak, and in the third trimester, when she is heavy, uncomfortable and short-tempered, think twice before saying nothing at all!"
