NESTLE NAN 2 Formula recalled
The voluntary recall, which was issued on Sunday, applies to formula made on November 27 last year, between 8.30pm and 10pm with batch code 73310179B2. The production time and batch number appear on the bottom of each 900g tin.
Eating the formula with increased volumes of iron, zinc and copper would not be life threatening, but could cause constipation and irritation.
'We prioritise consumer safety'.
On Tuesday the affected NAN 2 formulas were recalled from 175 of the 180 stores where the formula had been distributed, said Nestle spokesperson Theo Mxakwe.
"We prioritise consumer safety in ensuring that we comply with quality," he said.
The problem has been attributed to a minor malfunction of the company's dosing system. Nestle has since updated its automated system.
Consumers who have bought the affected product should contact the Nestle Care Line on 086 009 6789.
